ASSISTANCE, SUPERVISION AND MONITORING OF WORKS AT THE SOUSSE HAMDOUN II WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

Tunisia

Project

The Sousse Hamdoun treatment centre covers a total area of around 10 hectares. To meet future treatment needs, a new wastewater treatment plant will be built at the Sousse Hamdoun centre. This new plant is called Sousse Hamdoun II.

It involves the creation of an additional treatment line at the Sousse Hamdoun treatment centre for a daily volume of 36,046 m3/d of effluent to be treated and a BOD5 load of 16,500 kg/d, i.e. around 413,000 population equivalent. The wastewater treatment plant to be created will be designed using an activated sludge process that simultaneously eliminates carbon pollution, nitrifies and denitrifies, treats phosphorus and thickens and dehydrates the sludge. It is also planned to disinfect the treated water after clarification in a dedicated sand filtration and UV unit. The treatment processes are as follows:

  • Water
    • Feed to the treatment plant from the planned transfer systems,
    • Pre-treatment (screening, grit removal, oil removal) including waste extraction and treatment (sand and oil and screen removal products),
    • Secondary activated sludge treatment (with nitrification and denitrification and phosphorus treatment),
    • Clarification (secondary settling),
    • Disinfection by sand filtration and UV.
  • Sludge processes
    • Extraction of excess secondary sludge,
    • Sludge thickening,
    • Sludge dewatering by centrifugation.
  • Air
    • Ventilation of technical premises and workplaces.
    • Extraction and treatment of stale air.

Our mission

  • Mission A: Assistance with the approval of studies and execution plans, lasting 4 months.
  • Mission B: Assistance with control and supervision of the works and assistance with the start-up period for a total duration of 20 months. Monitoring of treatment performance during the development and commissioning periods for the water, sludge and air treatment processes.
  • Mission C: Assistance with the observation period, lasting 12 months, with monitoring of the operation of the treatment plant and the purification performance of the various treatment processes.
